My transformation has not been about weight loss but rather, attitude. As an athlete my whole life, I took my physical conditioning seriously but I also took it for granted. I was finally sidelined by a severe herniated disk and the resulting surgery and recovery in my late 30's.
After the surgery, I was no longer able to participate competitively in my favorite sports. Skiing, squash, even running, which had been the foundation of my fitness, was no longer an option. So, I had to adapt. I took up cycling rather then running and turned to the weight room rather than the squash court.
As I've grown older, my workouts have became much more of a daily mental and spiritual rejuvenation. As much therapy as it is physical conditioning as it is where I find my strength, my belief, my connection to my purpose... which is to help others find their own personal power by living a fit life.
