So this is something I don't quite understand. I think I have a pretty basic understand of the subject, athletes break down their training into training blocks and focus on a certain aspect for each block. Each of these blocks seemed to be very focused on whatever aspect and the training is tailored to fit the focus of the training block (sorry if I'm going in circles)
However, p90x, as far as I can tell, doesn't really have a specific focus for each block as far as I can tell because the workouts are pretty much the same besides which lifts to do, and overall each phase typically targets each general area.
So that being said can someone explain to me the p90x training blocks? I'm not looking for any particular answer, just whatever is right, whether each block does have a focus that I'm not seeing, or if there is a different science behind it. Is it entirely based upon muscle confusion? If so, wouldn't the affects of muscle confusion wear off once the body has mastered the movements of all the workouts? Or is the important part of muscle confusion just the fact that different muscles are being worked. The intensity doesn't seem to increase as the workout goes on, IMO at least.
Or is it as I said based 100% on muscle confusion?

I think I understand what you're asking. P90x's blocks are meant to be as whole-body as we could make them, which is why they sometimes frustrate runners or power lifters or other people used to pushing a certain aspect of fitness.

As for muscle confusion, the program is designed to really exploit that and hit the ground running, but ultimately, it takes a lot longer than 90 days for most bodily systems to plateau from one activity -- and even then, you'll still reap fitness benefits. The way the program is set up, you'll definitely hit a peak (for most people it's either in phase three or in the second round), but the decline in progress should be pretty slow.

Some of it, I was more wondering if each block had a specific focus that made it significantly different from the other blocks, or if they are basically interchangeable (except the third one) (so I guess the first two)

BBadvice,

What is it about the design of the program that causes the peak to occur in Phase 3 (or round 2)? Is it simply the accumulation of conditioning, is there something about the Phase 2 diet?

Well, it's designed to peak in phase three because you should be at a point where your body has learned the exercises, so we dial them up a little so you can push them harder.

And with the diet, phase three lays on the carbs so you'll have the fuel to do that pushing.

It's pretty simple, actually!
