My Overall Goal: Tone Up
Success Story
Tom Harper Won $1,000 in November 2009
Tom Harper had a lot to be thankful for. At 57 years old, he was still thin and had no major health problems, all without working out. "I could eat anything I wanted—ate ice cream, cookies, all that stuff—and really never gained any weight."
He may have been thin, but he wasn't in shape. His waist slowly expanded, and his weight crept up. His energy level wasn't what it had been, and he was no longer proud of his physical appearance. The avid motorcycle rider then worried that if his bike fell over, he wouldn't be able to lift it. "Not only was my weight going up, my energy level was low. I'd come home from work and have a few drinks. Bad energy. My body tone was starting to deteriorate. I was not happy with what I saw."
Now he wanted to get in shape, but he wasn't sure what to do.
"I wasn't happy with the idea of going out to a gym. I thought that it would be more of a chore and something I'd dread doing."
Then Tom's eyes were opened when he saw an infomercial for P90X®. He thought not only could this program get him in shape, but it would provide the structure he needed to stay motivated.
"I liked the idea that you did it in your home. I liked the idea that it was a professional, well-thought-out program. You had a class structure, without the problem of being there, and the diet plan that went along with it seemed like a really good idea."
When Tom started P90X, he was determined to give it his all, never missing a workout and staying true to the diet plan the first couple of weeks. Still, it wasn't easy.
"I got through all the exercises. I was extremely tired, and it was a struggle. It took some discipline. It took some resolve. I followed the advice of P90X. Decide. Commit. Succeed. And that makes good sense to me."
By day 30, Tom was starting to see results, but he was far from finished. And through the process he learned about the incredible importance of a good diet.
"That's one of the things that's a real revelation to me. My diet was always pretty simple, but I never kept track of various components—the carbs, the proteins, the fats that I was consuming. With the P90X nutrition plan, all of these things are worked out for you."
Now P90X has Tom feeling 20 years younger. He's lost seven pounds, cut his body fat from 21 percent to 12 percent, and is finally happy with the way he looks again. Tom hasn't had to lift his motorcycle yet, but he's confident that when the time comes, he'll be ready. For all of Tom's hard work and dedication, he is a $1,000 winner in Beachbody's November Million Dollar Body Game®.
