Discipline, who really likes that word, right? When someone thinks of discipline, they often consider the consequences received for doing something wrong. Well, the truth is, if you practice simple discipline in a few areas of your life, it will lead to many others.
My last few months is a great example of one discipline leading to another and another One good discipline leads to another...
Discipline, who really likes that word, right? When someone thinks of discipline, they often consider the consequences received for doing something wrong. Well, the truth is, if you practice simple discipline in a few areas of your life, it will lead to many others.
My last few months is a great example of one discipline leading to another and another and another, etc... After a routine physical at the doctor, I discovered that I have high cholesterol. I was also already aware of my lack of discipline in taking care of my body. My wife gave birth to our son Caleb almost 2 years ago. During her pregnancy, I put on 20 extra pounds that didn't belong. I also was gaining one half to one pound a month ever since. Bottom line, I weighed 211 pounds of a 5'7'' frame. Not good! That combined with high cholesterol meant I needed to make some lifestyle changes.
What's crazy to me is that I was already "exercising" and eating relatively healthy. Why was I continuing to gain weight? Lack of a few simple disciplines.
The first discipline that I started was gaining an understanding of how many calories I was consuming on a daily basis. I used an online tool and database to track how many calories I was truly eating each day. Come to find out that I was not eating as healthy as I thought, lol, shocker, right? Counting calories led me to start setting a daily calorie goal. I also began to track how many calories I was burning during workouts. Just the ability to know how much was going in and how much I was burning led to choosing better foods.
The result? I began shedding unwanted fat. 3-4 pounds a week for 8 weeks straight. See how one good discipline leads to another? Here's how it went down:
Calorie Counting --> Setting Daily Calorie Goal --> Reaching Goal --> Losing Fat
But my story doesn't stop there. These disciplines have led to other positive disciplines in my life as well. I'm growing in my faith each and every day, I'm more intentional about serving and loving my wife and son, and I'm also intentional about my relationships with others. Yes, my health and overall fitness are improving, but so is every other area of my life. All of this from starting 1 simple discipline!
This has also led me to the Beachbody team. I am on a mission to shed more fat and have the best body I possibly can. Beachbody will help me discover and employ even better disciplines that will help me reach my goal.
