Back at it

I had a great workout today, even though I had to modify for my shoulder.  I still have tendonitis in my right shoulder.  It is better but I am not a hundred percent so I have to modify the intensity of any work requiring my shoulder.  Did Insanity Plyo Cardio Circuit and it was tough but it felt good too.

I am a little heavy right now.  150.8 as of yesterday which is about 4 lbs over where I like to be.  Time to get serious on nutrition.  Seriously.  I have been indulging way too often.

I am ready to get focused.  I have very little travel scheduled for this month so I feel like now is the time to commit and make my training and health a priority again.

Rehab

The last month has been a whirlwind.  Lots of travel for business, deadlines and events.  I have tried to work out at least 4 times per week, but I have mostly done cardio and some leg work.  My shoulder is still a wreak event though I have been to therapy a few times now.  Tendons and really tight.  Insanity is great workout but, in my case, it was too much for my old shoulders, especially the Upper Body weight workout.  I honestly think that is when I injured myself.  Now all I can do is work slowly towards healing.

A Week to rest

I stated off as planned but on Tuesday I went to the Physical Therapist/Chiropractor for a little look-see on my shoulder and that changed the direction of the week.

Holy cow!  If you have never endured ART (Active Relief Therapy) you haven't felt pain that leads to healing.  My doc worked my bicep tendon, my shoulder and then ultimately my hip, hamstring and quad, which were apparently a lot more knotted up than I had realized.  40 minutes of grueling manipulations, followed by ice and ultrasound certainly loosened me up but I was way sore the next day and felt like I had been dragged through mud.  I took a rest day.

That is kind of how the week went.  I made it through the day, but felt fatigued and run-down and certainly bruised and battered from the therapy.  I didn't work out at all until Friday and then I just did Tony's new yoga routine - Patience.

Today is Saturday and I did Core Cardio and Balance - the easiest of the Insanity workouts.  I have to say, it feels good to get back to it but I wasn't bursting with energy.  Good food, water and a good attitude will get me back on track next week.

I am back.

A week of set backs

I guess it is to be expected that when you are working out hard your body is more susceptible to injury and illness, but when it happens it is still really annoying.

Chris and I went to the Pink Concert last Thursday (GREAT CONCERT!) and had a great time, but by Friday I was starting to feel a little run down and my eyes were really bothering me.  The air quality has been poor so I thought it was just allergies but I was generally not feeling well.

I decided that an Insanity workout would be too much so I did a more Crossfit style workout on Saturday - 10 declining sets of pullups, squats, shoulder press and pushups.  you do 10 of each exercise the first set and then for every subsequent set you do one less rep...10 then 9 then 8, etc.  I kept the weight light - 15 lbs dumbbells. By Saturday night I was really exhausted and then Sunday I felt better for most of the day...then Monday - puky. I had to stay home.   I was done.

Tuesday I got up and stretched a little but had very little energy.  Wednesday I jumped in and did Core Cardio and Balance.  Thursday I pushed myself and got though Sports Training, Friday I managed Plyo Circuit and today took it easy with ChaLean Burn it Off.

I am clearly off the Insanity rotation but what are you gonna do when your body just won't cooperate.  I honestly think that the month 2 rotation is a little too much for my age.  I need one extra easy day a week.

I plan to get back in next week but with my own version of the plan.

M - Insanity Upper Body and Cardio Abs

T  - Max Plyo

W - Max Recovery

Th - Max Interval Circuit

Fr - Core Cardio and Balance

Sat - Pure Cardio and Insane Abs

Hopefully I can stay high energy the whole week.

Upper Body - Whew!

Well, I got up today to do Max Recovery, which is really a strength workout more than a recovery workout and decided to sub in the Upper Body workout that came with the Deluxe package.  It is a rocker.  Some of the exercises were new for me so I stayed pretty light but I still worked hard and was a sweaty mess by the time I was finished.

I feel good.  It was tough but a nice break from all the intense cardio.

Tomorrow - rest.  I am going to see Pink in concert tonight so sleeping in tomorrow. YAH!
