I’m the average guy. As I began to reach my mid 40’s, I realized that I needed to do something other than sit on the couch and watch TV if I wanted to get in shape. I noticed that, because of my lack of activity, I was gaining weight and feeling stressed & sluggish. My cholesterol and triglyceride levels were also higher than normal. The excuse I had for "not" exercising was that I didn’t have time. But the truth was…that if I wanted to have more time on this earth with my family, those of you who have reached the age of 40 will understand what I’m talking about, I had better "make time" to take care of myself. After undergoing a health screening through an organization called the KRONOS Optimal Health Company I came to the conclusion that I needed to do something and joined my local gym. I did pretty good until I began to feel that I wasn't getting much of a workout or the results I wanted. One night while watching TV, I saw the advertisement for the P90X Extreme Home Fitness Program. I specifically recall hearing the words “home fitness” & “muscle confusion.” Those were the words I needed to hear. I watched the entire infomercial ordered the P90X program and immediately cancelled my gym membership. One of the questions I asked myself after purchasing P90X was; can I actually do this? During one of the first workouts Tony Horton said “just show up". Those words stuck in my head. Before every workout I would say to myself "just show up". It was nice working out at home instead of driving to the gym and fighting for equipment. I committed myself to 90-days. Each day I continued to “show up” and “press play". At first, I couldn’t do all of the exercises...but...I did what I could…and would modify an exercise when necessary. After a few weeks I felt myself getting stronger and noticed that I "could" do the exercises. As a side note; I was a bit concerned about the eating plan but found that after doing a P90X workout my desire to eat nasty food was gone! I didn’t want to ruin my hard work by making poor food choices. Obliviously, in this paragraph, I have just answered my own question. Can I actually do this? The answer, YES! When I began the P90X program I weighed 205.3 lbs. After the 90-days I weighed-in at 178.4 lbs. My total weight loss was 27 lbs. My cholesterol and triglyceride levels are now normal. Now I am in the best shape of my life. I have muscles where I NEVER had muscles before. At age 45 I am stronger and more confident about myself than I was at 25. The P90X program has helped me beyond just my physical appearance. I am now a more disciplined person! I have applied the discipline I learned from Tony and the P90X program in my spiritual life as well. I just "show up" everyday and read Gods word & pray faithfully. Now I have an inner confidence that continues to grow and am disciplined in both body and spirit. My hope is that the Lord will use my success story to encourage and inspire other people, just like me, who may be struggling physically and/or spiritually as they grow older. Again, I’m just an average guy who decided to set some fears aside and try something that made sense to me and as a result it has transformed my life. Just show up, keep pressing play and God bless!
