I have been a member of the Beachbody community for 5 years now and it's the only thing that has consistently worked for me to achieve and maintain excellent fitness. Before November 2003 I was 20-30 lbs. overweight for about 16 years. My weight went up and down due to poor diet and inconsistent exercise. I was a long-distance runner in high school, and continued to run off and on through the years. During the 3 years before starting Power 90 I ran in 7 marathons, and at times I was starting to get into good shape from an aerobic standpoint, but I was still struggling to get my weight and appearance where I wanted it. I NEVER had "6-pack" abs and a "ripped" physique. I’ve always valued physical fitness but I had fooled myself into thinking that I was in better condition than I really was. I seemed blind to my condition every time I looked in the mirror. I didn’t think I looked too bad unless I occasionally saw myself in photos. Pictures show the truth -- I was overweight and in marginal physical condition and I was starting to FEEL older and more challenged by any physical activity. I had achieved many successes in my life including my dream of being a doctor, getting my pilot’s license and a wonderful wife and family. But I did not feel good about how I looked or how I was starting to feel. For a year prior to starting Power 90, I had seen the Power 90 commercial several times. It intrigued me. Tony Horton looked very fit, and everything he said sounded so convincing. I loved how he said that God does not intend for us to be fat and weak, but to be lean and strong. I did not order it immediately because I guess I could not see myself doing workouts at home to a DVD video. I mean, “who does video workouts and gets the kind of results they expect?” I figured I could just get my running going strong again and do a little weight lifting on the side. Well, that never happened! I reached a point where I was really unhappy with myself physically and finally ordered Power 90. It was a major turning point for me. I jumped into this with both feet. I never missed a scheduled workout for the entire 90 days. The results blew me away! And now, after 5 years, I have continued to maintain great fitness using Beachbody’s workouts, supplements, and excellent nutritional principles. The thing I like most about Power 90 (or any Beachbody program) is that it can be done in my home, and I can get an excellent, efficient workout done in a short period of time with an expert trainer. So much for my false expectation of a video workout program! I have been fortunate to meet Tony Horton, and I have seen him train personal clients at premium rates. He uses the same training with his clients as he does with Power 90 or P90X. And let me tell you -- it's effective! Power 90 is an excellent program that quickly takes you through a very effective workout (and showered) in less than an hour. Beachbody provides the most concise nutrition plan I have seen anywhere. Even alone, the nutrition plan would help all people lose weight. But combined with the fitness programs, BAM!---complete transformation! Changing my diet was the hardest part for me in this program. I had been eating too many unhealthy foods and in much larger portions than I needed. Although not perfect, I did change the way I eat and it was the first time in my life that I actually lost weight and became more fit over Christmas 2003! After 90 days of focused, “clean” eating and daily exercise, it became mostly a habit although I still need to watch myself sometimes! I saw and felt some amazing changes in my strength and appearance. I lost 25 pounds and my body fat % went from 28% to about 14%. I felt and looked about 10 years younger. I moved on to P90X in March 2004 and had even greater results. That program is amazing! Tony and Beachbody have really put together the best all-around extreme fitness program there is with P90X. I’ve become stronger and more fit than ever in my life through that program. Since then, I have done a mixture of P90X, Power 90, Power 90 Master Series, and Power Half-hour workouts, combined with my running. P90X did wonders for my running, and I was able to set a personal record in the St. George Marathon in October 2004 with a time of 2:55:08! That's an average pace of 6:43 min/mile over 26.2 miles. Also in that same month, I was very lucky to be invited to the annual Power 90 Hawaii trip and meet Tony Horton. It was so awesome! I was able to meet others with experiences like mine, workout daily with Tony, and make lasting friendships. More than 5 years have passed since I did that first Power 90 workout and I am still using the Beachbody programs and supplements to maintain my fitness. Compared to “the old days” I am more active, energetic, and able to do all kinds of fun things better than I ever have before, including snowboarding, running, mountain biking and wakeboarding. My life is so much better because I am fit, and I feel good about how I look. Most people I meet can’t believe I’m soon to be 44. Fitness really can help turn back the physiologic clock! May 27, 2009 update: Just got registered for the St. George UT Marathon in October, so I am going to be increasing my running training in addition to Power 90 and P90X workouts for my overall fitness routine. Then after the marathon, I plan another strong round of P90X.
