At about age 28, my weight began increasing. I was eating plenty of "fast food." At about 30 years old, my weight reached 170lbs. Evidently, that wasn't enough to wake me up. After high school, I ceased running and working out. At about age 28, my weight began increasing. I was eating plenty of "fast food." At about 30 years old, my weight reached 170lbs. Evidently, that wasn't enough to wake me up. As the years rolled on, I ballooned up to 230lbs around the age of 45. I had gained 92 lbs over a 27 year period! What the “Doc” said: Two years ago, the family doctor said I had the onset of "Type 2" diabetes. He told me that my total cholesterol was about 252. He said I had borderline hypertension (high blood pressure). In the same month, my optometrist told me I had borderline glaucoma. I was then advised by these professionals that I should quit smoking, lose weight, and change my diet, OR I would probably die in less than 15 years. And I had two, beautiful reasons to listen: I was parenting two daughters as a single Dad. I wanted to be around for the girls as long as I was able. My doctors scared me so much that I starved myself and lost 20lbs very fast. I knew that starving was entirely the wrong approach to correct my issues for the long term, but I didn't know what else to do at that moment in time -- until I saw a P90X infomercial. I checked it out online, and realized that this was too advanced for me to start out with, so I ordered Power90 instead. Found my ticket – Power90 works: I followed Power90 to the letter, but stopped around day 50 because I took a job as an over the road truck driver (a huge mistake for me). During those 50 days of Power90, I got my weight down to 202 lbs, my blood pressure returned to normal, and my blood sugar also went back to normal. My vision also improved. My cholesterol returned to a normal range as well. All that in just 50 days! I knew I had found my answer. My body and mind started feeling good again. Then I made a very poor choice: In a rash decision, I took another truck driving job. And I soon realized that I could not do this type of work and continue with Power90. Either my job or my health was going to have to suffer. I wrongly decided to let my health suffer to make some money by driving and living on a semi-truck. Each day on the truck, instead of feeling like I was on an adventure, I would instead think about how my body was slowly going to crap. I was frequently eating at truck stop buffets and sitting behind the wheel for 11 hours (or more) each day. I tried to work out some during my short breaks, but it just wasn’t possible to make it amount to anything. This was very discouraging and depressing. Unexpected physical and emotional issues: I was getting depressed beyond belief. I was seeing, and feeling myself, go more downhill with each passing day. After all the former success I had experienced while using Power 90, I was not enjoying this new direction at all! I was feeling all alone for a month at a time on the road, and the loneliness became a much larger issue than I had ever anticipated. I was worrying about my daughters constantly- who were now rebelling and causing problems during my absence. While waiting to get my truck loaded, I sat in the driver's seat and wept over my kids. Over several months, these unhealthy conditions and family situations created a seriously depressed mindset in me. My life seemed to have lost all meaning, and I considered giving up. Saying “Goodbye”: In what I intended to be my last day on earth, I called my only living sibling and let her know that I had always loved her without divulging the full extent of my depressed state. During that conversation, she asked me to temporarily relocate to her house because the family problems involving my daughters had also resulted in the loss of my residence. I was officially homeless – except for a truck that is. Homeless, and almost totally broke, I had just enough money to cover the purchase of a flight to New York where my sister lives. Once there, I started trying to figure out what to do next. The hardest part was trying to find a reason just to wake up the next day. I was seriously THAT depressed. Going from having what I always considered a decent, self sufficient life, to becoming homeless, unemployed, and now estranged from the two daughters I spent my whole adult life loving so much really did a number on me psychologically. Nothing seemed to be working out. Opportunity knocks – but with a catch: On a whim, and at someone else’s nudging, I made a phone call to a recruiter, I learned that, at age 48, I could get back into the Air Force Reserve – a career I had sacrificed many years ago to try and keep my family together. I would get my military retirement opportunity back – with credit for 9 years already served, and basically start over with a former, part-time career that I had abandoned 19 years earlier – BUT ONLY IF I could get my weight down to 180lbs or less. This proposition seemed divine, and was the only positive thing I could see in front of me, so I leaped at the challenge. As a tool to reach this goal, I simply turned back to the Power90 program because I knew, first hand, that it works, and I really missed doing it anyway. I ordered a second copy of it as soon as I found out I needed to drop at least 22lbs in less than 90 days. Who would have imagined that 22lbs would be the only thing that stood between me and a career? I was not going to let 22 lbs of fat ruin such an opportunity, so into my sister's basement I went with Power 90 and a water bottle - 6 days a week. I have come to the conclusion that God is wanting to rebuild this gift of life with new health, opportunities, and relationships. My Progress My Fitness Goal: Transformation Story

I passed the military physical with the blood chemistry numbers of a 20 year old! Because of Tony Horton’s “Power Yoga” routine in Power 90, I was able to perform some moves (a flat footed duck walk while squatting comes to mind) easily that the kids were having difficulty with at the testing center. I made the weight with just 0.5lbs to spare! I took the oath of enlistment on Oct 1, 2008. My transformation is still in progress. I am still doing Power 90 and am now on my 3rd round. I have recently returned to my home state of Colorado and am seeking employment opportunities that will not conflict with my fitness goals. Being a Beachbody Coach is one such endeavor. Sometimes, I still feel like I have nothing since my family has fallen to pieces, but at least I’ll be physically and mentally ready when “He” decides to give me the opportunity to help others. God gives us the right tools, the right people, and enough resources to recover from many situations. I found much of that right here with Beachbody. Your health IS your life! | ||||||||
