I am a 45 year old Mom of two, who discovered herself through working out.
What started out as a quest to lose weight, turned into a profession.

I started working out when I was active duty Air Force and about 30 pounds
over my maximum weight. I was a size 16 (180+ lbs), my maximum allowed weight was
150 lbs, and not at all living a healthy lifestyle.

I was 185 pounds, a size 16 and extremely depressed. My job was in
jeopardy (I was in the military), I was unhappy with the person looking back
at me, and felt out of control. Food has always provided me with comfort.
Eating for comfort can put you into a vicious cycle when it comes to weight
loss. You are depressed because you can't lose, so you give up and comfort
yourself with more food. Not only that, but a lot of my social life was food
focused; lunch with my friends, lunch or dinner with co-workers, dinner out
with my husband, big meals with the family. I remember the day I made the
commitment to work out. I was at a chinese buffet with some coworkers and
as you rounded the buffet, there was a huge mirror on the wall, I caught a
glimpse of myself, plate in hand and barely recognized the woman staring
back. I started step aerobics the next day. I was a backrow exerciser, always
taking the very last row, and coveting it. I'd been taking step aerobics for
about 6 months, and progressing with weight loss when I was approached by
the instructor and asked to teach. I went home laughing to my husband and
he very seriously asked me "Why not?", I starting teaching about a month
later. When the pounds starting melting, I added weight lifting to my
schedule, started really watching my calories and lost a total of 50 pounds, I
have maintained that weight loss for about seven years. I have since become
a certified personal trainer, and teach several aerobic formats. There is
nothing more fulfilling then watching someone make the connection and
begin to see progress. I have the privilege of watching them get stronger and
healthier.
