My transformation is still in the early stages. My story will be prefaces with me being an asthmatic all my life. In the early days there were no such things as recovery inhalers and you just waited for it to pass by taking medication and sitting in a steamed-up bathroom, breathing in a paper bag and/or drinking strong tea. I learned how to use my condition to my benefit or so I thought. I have learned that I used it to my disadvantage by not being involved in sports or any extreme type activities up through High School. I was a husky kid in grade school and average weight in high school but never in good, healthy shape. I grew 4 inches after high school bringing me up to 6’5” and lean at 190lbs. I married my first wife at 21 and had a son at 23. I stayed trim but not in shape during my 1st marriage. I was separated at 25 and started to hit the gym. I would lift weights but never did cardio. I looked like I was in shape but couldn’t run a block. I did some modeling in my late 20’s and during this time I met my current wife. We marry in ’91 have our first child in ’94 and 2nd in ’99. During this time I had a business that took me all over the world with all types of food and no time to work out. So I grew, and grew. I would start and stop different exercise routines without a lot of results. I finally hired a trainer in ’06 when I hit 260lbs. I started to see a positive change in my overall being. The accountability is what I needed. My trainer went into management and I was left with a couple of young guys who were at the gym to be seen and not to help. Having trainers that didn’t help, the cost of having them plus the cost of the gym was enough to send me back to my old ways. I then say Tony Horton’s infomercial for P90X and thought it looked cool but wasn’t sure I would be able to do it. I then researched the program and still felt uneasy. So, I decided to take the test for it and was able to meet most of the criteria but still felt uneasy. I decided to contact Beach Body and ask for their opinion on where I should begin by supplying them with the information that I collected from the workout test. Honestly, I was expecting to be told to go for it and where was my $120 for the program. Happily, I was told that it may be better to start off with a less demanding program like P90 and work up to P90X. I purchased P90 and have past my 60 day period with the help of my coach, Devil Dog Gary DeJarlais, and the support group on the Team Fit Core thread. I am getting ready to start P90X and feel like I will succeed. Thank You Beach Body. 2/13/09
