My story has changed a bit from a few months ago. I am pregnant with my first child, and my husband and I couldn't be more happy. The first 20 weeks I was extremely ill (it should be called 'All-day Sickness') and I really let healthy eating and exercise go by the wayside. Now that I'm getting ready to head into my third trimester, I decided that even though I won't have a success story like My story has changed a bit from a few months ago. I am pregnant with my first child, and my husband and I couldn't be more happy. The first 20 weeks I was extremely ill (it should be called 'All-day Sickness') and I really let healthy eating and exercise go by the wayside. Now that I'm getting ready to head into my third trimester, I decided that even though I won't have a success story like everyone else might, my success will be eating healthy and working out regardless of being pregnant. I want to inspire other women (and men) so that they know that no matter what physical state they might be in with limitations, you can still move towards hope and health. I’m an Independent Beachbody Coach because I don’t want people to miss out on what they could and should have in their lives. You deserve to be fit, happy, and healthy. I’m not super-ripped yet but I’m on my journey, and I’d love to help you through your journey too. Every forward-step, as small as it may be, is a step in the right direction, and failure doesn’t exist as long as there is some movement. You CAN be who you want to be no matter your age, starting weight, or disabilities.
I was a ‘normal’, skinny kid growing up. At the age of 9, my family and I moved, and with no friends in my new neighborhood, my afternoons were spent with multiple Little Debbie’s Snack Cakes and school books. Right then and there started my life of emotional eating. I spent my life in school being rejected for how I looked, which just fed my need to feed.
I entered college in 2001 and started starving myself. I lost 30+ pounds my freshman year of college and started cycling. Three years later I was married. A few months after getting married I gained 50 pounds. I started running 1.5 miles a day and very light weight training with minimal attention to my diet. I functioned under the excuse that I was ‘working out’, so I could eat junk food. I disliked everything about my life and blamed my gain on everyone and everything but myself. When I didn’t drop weight, I became depressed and decided that at the age of 23 it was only going to get worse for me. I was addicted to eating, especially fast food. I would eat from the golden arch at least 4 times a week. I was tired, unhappy, and pursuing things that kept me in an unhappy state.
Finally, January of 2009, I decided it was time. I am tired of not doing things I want to do because I’m fat and uncomfortable with myself. This ‘body’ is not who I am on the inside, but it certainly stops me from being who I am when I’m around people. My goal became to become healthy, not just a certain weight or dress size. Half way through this round of P90X, I realized that my eating habits were not helping me at all. I’ve almost completely cut out dairy, cut out processed foods, and started realizing that food is fuel. The higher the quality you put in the better the performance. It takes more time to make a good meal than stopping through the drive-thru line, but you should always invest time in what you think is a priority. A healthy me is a huge priority and well worth the investment of time to make good, clean food. A healthy you is just as important.
With the help of my friends on the message boards, my coach, my beachbody workouts and my desire to be who I really am, I’m moving towards hope and fitness one step at a time, and I hope you’ll join me. The health we all want is within our reach. We just need to remember how important we are to ourselves and those around us. If you’re looking for a friend, contact me. I’d be thrilled to walk with you on your journey.
