I need to start out by saying that I am a holistic person. I believe that if a person is struggling in the spiritual realm, the physical and the mental realm will try to compensate, and the result is an imbalanced life. This often happens so slowly, it is hard to realize what has happened until one’s life topples over.
In the last few years I have tried to stop the “toppling” effect in my own life, often putting on patches that were only temporary, and feeling more frustrated after each subsequent “failure”. My marriage became an institution of two people living under one roof, walking through the motions, mindless and meaningless. My health and diet could be described the same way. I would start something only to quit just a few weeks later. I purchased more workout videos, only to have them collect dust, and me to purchasing the next size larger in clothing.
My transformation story started when my marriage almost ended at the end of 2007. We realized patches weren’t working, and we had to figure out how to be a couple, who truly wanted to be together. Oddly enough, this is the same time that I stumbled across the Million Dollar Body Club. I had seen Beach Body and WOWY on my Turbo Jam videos, but had not revisited the DVDs in the past two years. When I ordered Slim in 6, I was committed to following them for the whole six weeks. It was cheaper than joining the local gym, I could do it in the privacy of my own home, and it came with online support.
I contacted my coach, and started logging in to WOWY. It began just like any other time, and the success rate was probably about the same as any other time…given time, these new DVDs were bound to get dusty. That is, until I met Anne, my current coach. She happened to get up early one morning to workout, the same day I just happened to get up early. We started talking, and I had mentioned that I was considering getting up early to workout on a consistent basis. I knew it would be harder to workout on a consistent basis once I started teaching again in the spring, or at least easier to make excuses. There is a BIG difference between “considering” something and “committing” to something, and an even bigger difference when you commit to something WITH someone else.
I found myself getting up and working out at 6:00 a.m., which I have officially done for over two months now! Having success buddies waiting for me, even though I had never met them in person, made the difference. After throwing out the term “snoozebusters” to my coach, who ran with it, now I feel like I have an entire GROUP of people who pull me out of bed in the morning, and hold me accountable for goals I have set for myself.
As part of my transformation, not only am I working on a Million Dollar Body, but the process has given me hope for a Million Dollar Marriage. My husband has been watching me get out of bed, having more energy, and feeling good about myself. His interested turned into us having conversations about our eating, planning our workouts, and now we are coaches together. This is the FIRST time in our marriage of fifteen years that we are doing something together.
On February 9, 2007, my husband and I renewed our marriage vows, signing a Oneness Covenant with our children, and witnesses. I have a healthier body, and a beautiful ring to show for it. As a part of our ongoing transformation story, we will be starting the P90 workouts the beginning of March. My husband will be doing P90X and I will be doing P90. Once again, Million Dollar Body introduced us to something that we could do together and met the needs of each one of us at the same time.
I will not claim that Million Dollar Body will create a Million Dollar Marriage, but I will testify that it has been an intricate part in my transformation process. I look forward to spending at least another fifteen years, hopefully more, with my husband, as a spiritually, emotionally and physically fit person. I would have never expected that logging in, pushing play, posting on message boards and taking before and after pictures would have such a large impact. When one part of your life improves, the other parts cannot help but do the same. If we can do this, anyone can do this. Like me, I know you will be glad that you did.
I am glad I didn’t give up on my marriage, and I am glad, through the help of my buddies at MDB, that I did not give up on my physical fitness goals. I am looking forward celebrating an abundance of anniversaries. I will live by my Great-Uncle’s saying, “May the best of your past, be the worst of your future,” and I know the best is yet to be.
