Let’s see, as far as I can remember I have always been the size of my age. For example, when I was 8 years old I wore a woman’s size 8, at 20 years old I wore a size 20, etc. At the age of 14 I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and take a daily pill. When I was 16 I briefly got down to 170 pounds and when I was around 19 I briefly got down to 185 pounds. Unfortunately, I was eating an unreasonably low amount of calories and exercising too much to be able to maintain my weight loss. In addition, I would think that I looked great and was a “skinny person” so I would eat like I had a fast metabolism even though I didn’t. I have found that pretty much all of the plans will work if you follow them; you just need to find the one that works with you and be in the right mentality to stick to the plan.
When I first starting “dieting” I was eating around 2400 calories a day (imagine how many I was eating before that to still be able to lose weight, haha). My goal is to lose 1-2 pounds per week. When I have a week of no weight loss I reduce my calories by about 200 calories a day and stick to that until it needs adjusting. As my body weight decreases, I need fewer calories, so I reduce as needed.
I feel like I have been dieting my entire life, it’s just how serious I take it at that time. I used to tell people I would diet until 4 pm and then I was so hungry I would give up and try again the next day. Now that I eat more calories, I am able to stick to my personal plan because it is much more reasonable. Having a support group like Reality of Weighting keeps me going. I am accountable to showing them my progress for the week, so each time I feel like snacking, I think of how that will affect my weigh in. The messages the members send to each other are very encouraging and supportive. If I feel like snacking because I am bored, I use that time to check out the forum and the blog. I look up to the members of RoW that have started before me and hope to be an inspiration to future new members.
I am excited to use the WOWY schedule to work out with other people with similar goals!
