Like most, I’ve always started exercise routines, but never followed through. I competed in sports throughout high school, but have found it somewhat difficult to stay active since then. (Working two jobs didn’t help my case either.) With the advice of a close friend, last year I decided to quit my second job and enjoy life a little (ok a lot) more than I had been. This obviously allowed me more time to commit to an exercise routine. So the decision was - what to do?? I had run cross country in high school and loved it. It couldn’t be that hard to run 3 miles again, right? Well I had tried numerous times to start running again, but never followed through. It was a true testament of how out of shape I really was. However this past spring I learned of a running club called NEOFit (www.neohiofit.com) and joined to train for a marathon. (I guess 3 miles just wasn’t far enough – “go big or go home!”) I will be the first to say that having the group support helped tremendously. We were given a training schedule, assigned a coach based on our running pace and had group runs every Saturday morning at 6:30 a.m. As early as that was (and especially for one that likes to sleep), I don’t think I missed one…I would have felt too guilty. In the end all those early Saturday mornings and training runs paid off. On September 27, 2008, I felt a sense of accomplishment I can't ever remember feeling when I came across the finish line at the Akron Marathon (26.2 miles.) Since then I haven’t run very much due to a minor knee injury but certainly plan to do another marathon next year and possibly even a sprint triathlon. I want to have those same feelings of accomplishment and success over and over again. So my point to this whole story is that having the support of a group or network of like-minded people is huge when it comes to accomplishing a goal. I’ve experienced it and know that it works. I believe it’s truly one of the keys to fitness success. So when I was approached about being a coach and member of Beachbody, it was a no-brainer for me. I had already experienced that success once and to not only have that opportunity again but also be able to encourage and inspire others while doing it…sign me up! So I’m reaching out to all those that have had fitness success as well as those that haven’t. I’ve joined the Beachbody network and if you feel it’s a fit, so should you. I look forward to the support I will receive from my coach as well as the support I will give others as a coach myself. In short, I believe you should take chances and don't regret any of them if they don't turn out the way you wanted. Both the good and bad experiences of life are what makes us who we are. Everything you do and say is a choice. Don't be afraid to make one. You should believe in yourself no matter what and most importantly, have faith! “Be the change you want to see in the world.” ~Gandhi | ||||||||
