I am a 53 year old (07/2008) former truck driver that got off the road back in August of '06. Prior to getting off the road, I was taking the maximum dosages of Glucophage, Avandia, and Byetta. My bloods sugars were still out of control and my doctor wanted to put me on insulin also. After getting off the road, without health insurance I couldn't afford doctor's visits or diabetes prescriptions. I I am a 53 year old (07/2008) former truck driver that got off the road back in August of '06. Prior to getting off the road, I was taking the maximum dosages of Glucophage, Avandia, and Byetta. My bloods sugars were still out of control and my doctor wanted to put me on insulin also. After getting off the road, without health insurance I couldn't afford doctor's visits or diabetes prescriptions. I weighed about 280 and my blood sugars ran between 400-500 after my prescriptions ran out. 80-110 is considered to be the normal blood sugar level range.
I've tried natural remedies with only very limited success. However, as of 6/1/08 my weight is down to 195, but my blood sugars were still running very high (300 +), especially first thing in the morning.
About mid June I got serious about weight training. I work out six days a week first thing in the morning to jump start my metabolism. Each work out lasts an intense 30 minutes or longer. I've also cut out a lot of saturated fats from my diet and made other adjustments to my eating habits.
By mid-morning my blood sugars are from high (170 or less) to close to normal range. The weight training and other exercises plus nutritional changes have made a major difference in getting my diabetes under control with out prescriptions or herbal remedies ($$$).
The hardest part is getting motivated every morning to get the workout going. That's where the support of my WOWY (Work Out With You) buddies makes the difference. It keeps me on track. You are bound to find one that works for you, and that makes it easier to keep motivated towards better health, what ever your fitness goals may be.

Unfortunately my supervisory position at a local truck stop was eliminated due to the economy. So, I'm back to driving for a living. That means my logins are erratic. As much as I appreciate the workout invitations, all too often I won't be able to participate due to the unpredictable and demanding work schedule of being a long haul driver.
