My story is all too common. so, if you decide to stop reading after a few sentences, i won't be offended!
I've been fit all my life. I had my first 6 pack at the age of 10, and I figured I'd never EVER let it go. I played all kinds of sports growing up, but my two favorites were Swimming and Soccer. I made the high school Varsity teams for both before I was even out of middle school. When I was 16, I even had the honor of racing against Michael Phelps at the Sr. Nationals conference. He destroyed me, but I was just so happy to compete on the national level that it didn't bother me at all. That same year, my HS soccer team won the NY State championship tournament. Life was good!
I continued swimming and playing soccer in College, which kept me very fit, despite the extreme drinking habits that I developed. The ladies loved me, and life was (still) good!
After graduating however, my activity dropped to ZERO! I wasn't swimming or playing soccer, and i didn't even start a gym membership, but I still kept eating whatever I wanted and drinking enough beer to put a college frat boy under the table. I slowly packed on the pounds, and after 2 to 3 years, my cherished 6-pack was gone. Well, I could still see it if I flexed, but I HAD TO FLEX REALLY HARD! I know some of you will read this and be like "psshht that's not fat," and you're right, but it was the fattest i've ever been in my whole life, and i was ashamed.
It seriously affected my personality. i was usually so outgoing and confident, but my self-image turned so negative that i became shy and reclusive. i wouldn't even talk to girls at bars because i just figured they wouldn't be interested. my self-disgust manifested in my dreams, where I would never get the girl, and that was even more depressing and reinforced my negative self-image.
So i decided to try P90X. i mean, i work for the company, and I had seen all these amazing success stories that hit my desk every day. I tried it for two weeks before i fell off the "bring it bus." i just couldn't stay committed! It wasn't until Beachbody's first 90-day employee health challenge that I really honestly gave the program a shot. I made it about half-way through and then quit again! In that 45 days, I lost 8 pounds and 3% body fat, and my abs regained some of their former glory.
I discovered that I couldn't just arbitrarily pick a time frame. I needed something concrete and meaningful to me to get in shape for. For me, that's always been "the ladies." So I called up a girl who lives in NYC that I had the biggest crush on in college, and I scheduled a visit months in advance. I bought my plane tickets, so i was COMMITTED to the trip, and I knew that it would be sooo embarrassing if she saw me naked as-is. (c'mon ppl, we're all adults here; i'm just being honest! ) So I dusted off my P90X videos, and I finally finished a whole 90 day cycle. I got back down to my college weight and got my killer abs back!
I've been sticking with the program ever since. I've even dabbled in INSANITY and RevAbs. I can honestly say that I not only look great again, but i FEEL GREAT again, and really that's the most significant thing for me. as a result i've been killing it with the ladies again, and life is GOOOOOOD!
God bless Beachbody. I never thought this job would be such a lifesaver.
