Transformation Story

I began my journey as the “Chubby Boy” in school and I hated it! I was always big and I always struggled with weight. I never really knew what to do to change myself and I was not sure why I was this way. After high school I met a friend who started taking me to the gym and interested me in weight training. I was working out 3 days a week and eating healthy and I could see the results of taking a different path on this journey.

I started out at 280lbs and eventually reached 210lbs. I was working out, eating right and had even begun playing on a Rugby league with practices two nights a week and games on Saturday mornings. This was the life I wanted to live forever!

Then one Saturday my sister came to watch me play my Rugby game, she brought a single mom friend of hers from school and the rest was history. We were married a few months later and had our first baby that year. The time that I once had to work out and play Rugby was now spent working hard to provide for my new family, developing my relationship with my wife, and fathering my children. My lack of time then grew to a lack of discipline in many areas of my life. All of these bad habits started to catch up with me. I woke up one day 3 years later and decided something had to change, I was back up to nearly 280lbs.

In 2003 I saw a commercial for Power 90, my wife and I were ready for a new life. We purchased it and started it....over and over and over never staying at it more than a week. The problem was that I still had no discipline. I was depressed because of my over eating and I over ate because I was depressed. I could not find the keys to unlock this bondage and until I could I was destined to travel down this bad road on my journey.

In 2008 I began to see commercials for P90X, I wanted to get it so badly, but after my track record with Power 90 I was fearful, I didn't want to fail AGAIN. For my Birthday in early April my wife surprised me with P90X (I guess I had talked about enough!) I began that day and I was DETERMINED to finish. On day 6 after doing my KenpoX workout I actually had enough energy to go play basketball with a buddy of mine, I rolled my ankle, fracturing it and spent the next 2 weeks on crutches and 2 months in a walking cast. I was angry at myself because I NEEDED to finish it. Again I felt like I had failed and I did not start again even after I was cleared by the doctor.

As a registered nurse, my wife would beg me to workout, eat right and lose weight, she would tell me she didn't want to be a widow and single mom of 4 because of my unhealthy lifestyle. Finally resigned to the fact that I was just going to be fat, she purchased some nice new size 44 pants for me for Christmas. One day in November I ripped my last pair of work pants and my wife pulled out my hidden Christmas presents; they were too tight! That night she had to go out and purchase size 46 pants for me and THAT was my turning point. I began the program again and have never looked back. It took a huge family effort and lots of sacrifice, we were expecting our 4th child and juggling 3 totally different aged children. My wife began cooking separate measured meals for me and trying to teach me how I needed to eat; I HAD to take the time out every evening to workout. I have learned about frequent small lean and clean meals and that even if I mess up on one thing I don't sabotage my entire day or if I can't get to a workout I don't decide to wait till next week to start again. If there is a set back you have to get back at it immediately and not allow you to beat yourself up. I started a little over 6 months and I have lost 90 lbs and 3 pants sizes. I am comfortably in an XL shirt and a L is just a few weeks away! I have never felt better!

Even though it is a winding path with adjustments having to be made along the way I KNOW this is my life and something I will always do.

Thank you Beachbody for creating the tools necessary to be successful in my journey to a healthy life!
