Hi,
I'm Chris from PA and currently working on the P90X program which my wife
and I started on 1/22/2009.
For most of my life I was fairly athletic and maintained my weight despite
eating all the wrong foods and drinking far too much beer on the weekends.
Everything seemed to be fine until I passed the 30 year milestone. After that,
the weight began to accumulate, slowly at first and steadily increasing until I
hit 36 and January of 2007 rolled around. By this time I was ~220lbs and I
was struggling against high blood pressure and having sporadic dizzy spells
throughout the day. Looking back, I'm convinced my weight was causing the
problems.
Next rolled around January 18th, 2007, the day that changed my life forever.
Some friends from church were having a pickup game of Wallyball over at the
local gym and asked me to tag along. Knowing I was a little overweight, I
figured I could use the exercise so I obliged on their request to play.
Thinking I could still "bring it" despite being a little older and a little heavier,
I went up for the big spike on a well placed ball close to the net and came
down rather heavily on my left leg and heard and felt a POP. A trip to the
emergency room revealed I had suffered a complete rupture of my Achilles
heal.
After surgery and during my recovery, I decided it was time to lose some
weight and get back into shape. I purchased a Bowflex and began working
out 4 days a week doing resistance training and began altering my diet to a
more healthy lifestyle. The pounds started coming off quickly in the
beginning but I eventually plateaued and couldn't lose any more weight no
matter how hard I tried.
I figured I needed to begin doing some cardio to shed some more weight.
Well, that also worked for a while and I even started doing 5k races for
charity. Over the past year I've gotten my time down from 28 minutes+ to
22:30 in the last race I did back in November. On top of that, I was able to
now get my weight down to 178lbs. This is 42lbs down from where I started
and I feel great. On top of that, another side-effect is that my blood
pressure has come down tremendously and now checks in at 115/72 and my
standing heart rate is 52 beats/min.
Even with all the running and resistance training, I still have a pouch around
my stomach that just won't go. This is what eventually led to my purchase of
P90X.
I've seen the infomercial countless times and always thought in the back of
my head that it looked like a good program, but infomercials being
infomercials, I couldn't bring myself to purchase the product. After meeting
three separate individuals who claimed to have success using the program, I
finally decided I would give it a shot and see if I could shed the fat once and
for all.
I began on January 21st of 2009 and am scheduled to complete round 1 on
4/21/2009. Stay tuned for round 1 results.... :=)
