I have a history with depression. Every couple of years, I would hit a season in my life that would sink me into a hole, where I found food as my only comfort. In college, this took hold of my life. Many different factors such as relationships, family, etc., became the hammer that kept pounding me down. I yo-yoed between only eating yogurt for a day to eating everything I could get my hands on. I was always too tired to work out, and most of the time, trying to work out resulted in tears.
I finally sought some help my junior year, and went to a Christian counselor. At this point I had gained about 30 pounds, and hated my reflection completely. After about 6 months, I was able to start the process of liking myself again. It was then that I discovered Turbo Jam.
One of my roommates found out that she had Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, and didn't know what to do. Someone suggested Turbo Jam to lose some weight, so she ordered the DVD. The first time she did it, I sat on the couch pretending to study, because I "didn't do DVDs." It was only a few days before I couldn't resist. The first time, I could barely breathe during the 20 minute workout. But, over time, we would look forward to our nightly Turbo Jamming! We would talk to Chalene, Jenelle, Mindy, Ana-Rita, as we worked out, like we were all friends and having a dance party. Turbo gave me the emotional lift I needed at just the right time. It was and is one of my favorite memories of college.
After graduation, real life hit, and I started teaching 11th grade. Teaching drained me completely of any energy, and I was lucky to be able to work out once a week. I made every excuse in the book, and in doing so gained back everything plus another 10 pounds. Christmas came, and lo and behold, my mom had bought me my very own Turbo Jam! I was excited and immediately started working out again, this time, with intention.

While I was working out, I didn't change my eating habits, so I maintained the weight. But I was gaining endurance and having fun, so I wasn't too discouraged. My current roommate discovered Turbo as well, and we made times to work out together.
I decided to pursue being an instructor, because I wanted to be able to help people the way that Chalene has helped me. I finally got my eating habits together this past summer and have lost 14 pounds so far!
