I am a very content wife and mother of four. My husband and I both settled into a fast-paced routine that led to weight gain over a period of years. Despite knowing that I was overweight, I was pretty lazy about doing anything about it. My husband never ever complained and always told me that I am beautiful. (LOVE THAT MAN!) So I never felt pressured to change. I also always figured that because I'm young, I had a lot of time before my unhealthy lifestyle caught up with me. WRONG!!! In late 2006, my doctor informed me that my triglycerides were too high. I had actually battled this problem in my mid twenties so I was not all that shocked. We tested them regularly in 3-month intervals and they steadily increased. Suddenly, my LDL was unrecordable because the triglycerides were so high; my HDL was too low (not exercising) and my hemoglobin A1C (for diabetes) was borderline. I thought to myself - "I'm only 37!" I knew I had to do something because I was on a fast track to ill-health. I am the proud mother of 4 wonderful children and the horrible thought that I wouldn't be there for all their milestones because of my own poor judgement was simply unacceptable to me. I decided it was time to make a difference. In February 2007, I started on a meal replacement shake program. Two chocolate shakes a day and a healthy balanced meal at dinner with healhty natural snacks in between; I exercised 3-4 times a week; gave up coffee and soda, and stopped my nightly bowl of movie-theater popcorn! Within weeks I started losing the weight. I lost my first 30 pounds in the first three months. I plateaued for a while and just maintained that 30-pound weight loss but still desired to reach my original goal of 39 pounds off. With a more intense workout, I lost that last 9 pounds and decided to set a new goal for an additional 10 pounds. My triglycerides dropped originally in my first year, but I guess you just can't fight genetics. I did ultimately end up on medication, BUT I'm 40 pounds lighter and I feel great! I love my routines and fully intend to keep with the program.

It is easier than you might think and once you get going on a program you will surely feel so much better! REMEMBER - Junk turns to chunk - so stay away from the fast food and sweets. The key for me was to change bad habits for good ones and make it a life-long change, and I'm SO glad that I did.
