Wow, what a year of personal growth! In the last 6 months, I’ve completed my first round of P90X, run two 5Ks, completed an 8-week triathlon training course, and participated in my first Sprint Triathlon (1/2 mile swim, 12 mile bike, 3 mile run)! I also completed my first 10K run. It was on a treadmill because I'm a Cali girl living in Wisconsin (it was too cold on race day)!

In the summer of 2004 several things happened that forced me to reexamine my life. I was in a very stressful job and it took its toll on me both physically and mentally. I was hired by another college but had to make a final trip to present at a conference in DC! I invited my older sister to attend the conference with me. It was going to be our first sister-sister vacation, just us!

We made plans to visit all of the historical memorials/monuments. I began to suffer from heat exhaustion halfway through our tour! She was disappointed and concerned that I was unable to walk up the steps at the Lincoln Memorial. We went back to the hotel and talked about my health as she attended to her sick baby sister. I’ll never forget the look of concern on her face!

I was slim most of my life. Things happened. My life was crazy. I ended up a single parent raising my son on my own. After a few additional setbacks, I decided to dedicate my life to raising my son and giving him advantages that I didn’t have. I shut myself off to everything but school, work, and motherhood. Excelled at each one but my body, health and fitness took a turn for the worse. In 15 years I gained 100 pounds, a master’s degree, and administrator status!

Then BAM! I woke up alone, obese, and my baby was a MAN! I floundered here and there, tried other in-home workouts, taken every aerobics & yoga class available, joined a gym, and attended various nutritional sessions/meetings. I have tried it all, never seeing results. Then like most folks I found the BB infomercial one sleepless night.

I started Power 90 in April of 2005, went down 6 dress sizes, lost over 30 inches, and 25 pounds. My weight loss came to a screeching halt due to my inability to put the fork down! I had not cleaned up my eating so the weight stopped dropping.

The most amazing part of this whole transformation is that this “night owl” gets up before the rooster crows and pushes play at 5 a.m.! I can't believe that I am actually getting up at 5 a.m. to exercise and I try never to miss my date with Tony! My sister teases me about that mercilessly.

Soon after joining the BeachBody community, I met Virginia (Gin) the coach for the 100+ Pioneers, a group of folks with over 100 pounds to lose. The coaches and community board offer extraordinary support! Initially I had problems with some of the exercises and I found modifications from coaches and reading threads! Gin, my coach, is amazing and encouraged me to do the X (since I tired everything else). After 1.5 years with of pushing play, I took the plunge! I smashed the X!

It wasn’t easy but every rep, every jump, every tear, every grunt brought out the beast in me! I refused to quit and tried to master any move that Dreya invented (still working on the Dreya Roll). I felt wonderful, as if I could move mountains! I decided to take the plunge and do something I was always to afraid to do! I signed up for a triathlon training camp and a Sprint Triathlon! Through the encouragement from the folks in the Pioneer and Double Trouble threads I kicked some major fear booty! I excelled at camp! I kept up with the fit people! I believed in myself! I sent Negative Nelly (my alter-ego) packing! AND I FINISHED MY FIRST SPRINT TRIATHLON!

That’s what BB/MDB has done for me!

I have learned to put myself first! I think of me! I love myself enough to make time for myself!
