My Photos | heartsong Career and Fitness Background: Having traveled throughout the western hemisphere as a songwriter, recording artist, yoga/dance exercise instructor & motivational speaker, from the 70s - 90s, I never imagined I could become unfit. At one time I was even training with a professional power lifter. But in the early 90s, feeling a need for a change of direction in my career, I took a sabbatical to do Career and Fitness Background: Having traveled throughout the western hemisphere as a songwriter, recording artist, yoga/dance exercise instructor & motivational speaker, from the 70s - 90s, I never imagined I could become unfit. At one time I was even training with a professional power lifter. But in the early 90s, feeling a need for a change of direction in my career, I took a sabbatical to do research and explore options. After relocating to Nashville in the 90s, my husband and I started a remodeling business; I also worked from home as a Sales Director of a company featuring Skin & Body Care products. While self employment has many advantages and offers flexibility, it has it's pressures. My former habits of working out & eating right slipped away in favor of meeting deadlines & quotas. Then, to add another element to this overall equation, for over seven years I worked to complete the comprehensive course work of two correspondence Colleges. Did I mention that I had been letting my workouts go? Today, I am a double graduate; I feel renewed in my soul, dedicated to the tasks ahead and excited to be composing again. A brand new CD is now complete, along with a Spanish version, ready for release; a bi-lingual website is also under construction. So,like many folks who face their middle years, I still have dreams of fulfilling more of what is in my heart. I have been blessed to share a lot already in my life; but as long as I am alive, I hope to continue to be used by God to be a blessing whenever possible; I would love to encourage others along life's journey, with "a song or a word" and hopefully raise funds for humanitarian causes; however, it is also true that to be an effective & credible motivator, I must be committed to a mind/body/soul balance, which means remaining dedicated to a life of wellness. So, Spring of 08' I decided to begin a new lifestyle; no more procrastination, no more starts and stops and no more excuses, realizing that life is too precious to gamble with. Besides, how can I fulfill "a call" on my life if I am sick or losing ground due to health issues? Part of loving God, loving others and loving oneself.. is to take responsibility for one's health and fitness, but..what program would I do? We now live in a little cabin on five acres in the Smoky Mountains, so there are no gyms nearby and there is not much room in the cabin. But, like an answer to prayer I discovered the TBB network through a TV ad and with my first DVD set (Slim Series) on the way,I got busy to prepare. I cleared an area in my loft, with a view of the forest, of my vegetable garden, our hen house and our bee hives (my husband is a bee charmer). There, in my little loft spot, you will find me every day enjoying my workouts. My little "coaches" are 4 dogs and 3 cats who often huddle around and watch. So, now you know about 2008; but what did 2009 bring? Well, as for a lot of families, the economy affected my husband's business and so in facing a few surivial issues, we had to re-invent ourselves, work very hard and get creative, standing strong on our faith. Our schedule became irregular at times, and after adding in the extra stress...well, keeping up with workouts, periodically became a challenge. I didn't lose more weight than in 08', but I did not gain more either. However, the role that Team Beach Body played for became even more important than before, especially during these challenging times; it became clear to me that if I could help others more directly with their focus, then this would help my own commitment in the process. So I took the bold step of signing up as a Coach. I also plan to refer folks to my TBB site from my music & "spiritual living" & "country living" websites, since I will have pages dedicated to fitness at each site. Meanwhile, my husband has joined the Army National Guard and will be working on helicopters as he is an A/P Mechanic;joining the Guard is a career move which will require fitness so he has joined me in many of my workouts now. So, I will close my story by saying that I am grateful to the Million Dollar Body Network (including the patient customer service agents), to Debbie Siebers for her gentle manner (with kick butt workouts),to Tony Horton for his direct approach, to Shaun T for making me laugh & smile while giving me fun dance moves, to Kathy Smith for her straight forward routines, to the creative "Booty Ballet" team, to Chalene for her vitality & enthusiasm...thanks to all of you Wowy members for your work & dedication and for just "being there." I also want to acknowledge my coach Phyllis (she is a "Before & After" contest winner with TBB; but most of all, she offers patient support to her team and downline), To Coach Danny (Phyllis's son,) who got me started on the right track, to my husband for his understanding & supportive attitude;lately he says, "you're shrinking!". And I appreciate all of you; I am happy to to share the journey with my Buddies. When I first wrote an entry for my profile in March of 08', tears came to my eyes as I remembered all of the frustration around the "starts and stops" that I have been through over the past decade in trying to get back to a healthy lifestyle; but these tears were not of sorrow, but of hope & belief, because this time, I know I am succeeding. It has made all the difference for me, after struggling many years to stay consistent. My thanks to the originators of this website and of the WOWY concept, because it is very true, that positive relationships with others, turns what could be "mundane training time" into a warm exchange of friendship as we celebrate daily, the small steps we take, one workout at a time and one week at a time. I BEGAN MY JOURNEY WITH WOWY & TBB... in the Spring of 08'; learning about the Slim N 6 program from a television ad, I ordered without realizing all the support & fun that would come with it. When my package arrived, I discovered much more than a DVD wrapped in packing material; there was a whole new world inside that little box. Soon I was exploring the website,learning about WOWY, the coach program, as well as about all the other supportive services & products that are conveniently available, to enhance my overall training and transformation experience. A few years ago, BEFORE BECOMING A TBB MEMBER, I was temporarily successful in dropping from 180 to 150, but inevitably I gained back 18 pounds (went up to 168 again) since I was not consistent with workouts and a healthy diet. With some effort, during the winter of 07' - 08', I dropped a few lbs and then re-gained them, but within a few pounds of 168 is where my statistics froze until I began with TBB a few months later. When my DVDs arrived, I weighed & measured as recommended, before starting the program... then I went for it! I COMPLETED SLIM N'6, dropping my first pounds & inches. Fueled by that small success, I moved on to SLIM SERIES. Since then, I have also experienced P90;I have had fun with Shaun T's Hip Hop approach, Yoga/Booty Ballet, Kathy Smith & Chalene's Turbo Jam sessions. Hey! I'm still smiling, and when I remain consistent with workouts and keep track of my food consumption, I continue to drop pounds and inches. Meanwhile, my husband and I have been enjoying our return to the dance floor, after many years away. It is great to spin around the halls again. Life is too short to miss out on all the best moments; having renewed vitality and strength helps make it possible to keep those precious moments alive. UPDATE - October 15th,2009: I've experienced periodic challenges to being able to maintain my healthy lifestyle this year, as my husband and I have traveled extensively due to a loss in the family, due to out of town work (coping with the decline in the economy) and due to the trips to the recording studio that were needed to complete my lastest CD. WHILE TRAVELING, I did watch food portions and I actually did "log on" to Wowy frequently to work out, even from hotel rooms, which helped me prevent losing ground. COMING HOME TO TBB - I remember coming home from one of these journies and logging in with great relief, realizing how glad I was to "come home" to WOWY; (there was no internet available on that trip) and how glad I was that WOWY and TBB were with me during my travels when I did have internet access. AS OF FALL 2009 - I have kept off the 15 pounds I dropped in 08,' but it is time to take off more pounds and Build Muscle....So drumroll ladies and gents...This week I am adding "CHALENE EXTREME"into my workout profile. So far I love it; it reminds me of my old power lifting days; her training regarding "keeping strict form while lifting" is excellent! As for my "fitness prognosis"..the news is good, however, judging from reading other stories, my progress might seem a little slower than what some folks experience, since I am also working around a sluggish thyroid and a few old injuries; but I am happy with not re-gaining all that weight I dropped previously and with seeing consistent progress over time. I am developing more patience with the over-all process, taking my special needs into consideration. Even though there is an ocassional "two steps forward and one back" progression, I am working to stay "grounded" & "realistic" and just keep moving forward, resisiting the temptation to compare myself to others or to feel bad over what I have yet to accomplish. ONGOING TBB SUPPORT - What makes it easier to keep pressing forward is the wide range of support that TBB offers and the fact that my Buddies are still there waiting for me to join them in a workout; I truly enjoy meeting up "online" with my new WOWY friends each day and I anticipate a long, satisfying and enduring relationship with Team Beachbody, WOWY, my coach (Phyllis) and Buddies, as I work to build health and fitness, to carry me through the rest of my life. It is clear by my experience this past year, that exercising daily is not negotiable...to keep my metabolism burning hot; building muscle is also non-negotiable. It is not always fun to track these things, but it is much more fun to feel good, than suffer illness from obesity or disease resulting from non-action. Commitment is the key and once I knew how much better I could feel in every way by living a fit life, then it is never long before I'm glad to be "back on track," even if I have stepped off the treadmill for a few days here and there. NO FEARS, NO REGRETS - Watching the Olympics in 08', the men's gymnastics team won a medal in spite of many obstacles; their motto was, "No Fear, No Regrets!" I wrote that on a piece of paper and hung it above where I work out every day. There is no fear of failure today, with all the support Team Beach Body offers and I never regret pushing play. Sweat, focus and patience are the ingredients that champions are made of and with the right support, which we have with WOWY & TBB, there is a champion in each one of us!
