My Photos | jhudgens I have lived in S. Florida since high school. I started working as a letter carrier as soon as I graduated. 19 years later made a huge career change. While still lugging mail around, I put myself through school and became a firefighter/paramedic. I quit the Post Office and I have been a FF/PM fulltime since 2002. I also teach EMT, Paramedic and Advance Lifesaving at our local community college part time since 2005. I love my work and I enjoy teaching a great deal. It's important to stay in shape and stay physically fit for the fire service especially since I got a late start. (I'm 44 now). I started weight training when I was 30 and loved the results. I have competed in a handful of figure shows and won either first or second place. It's very hard work and the diet is ridiculously strict. I feel like that has caused a major burn out in my drive to eat healthy and continue with my success in the gym to stay in shape. I do feel competing kept my drive going to stick with the diet and workouts. (Something about being judged on a stage in a bikini kept me doing whatever my trainer told me to do.) I chose not to compete anymore in figure shows because of the cost and the last few days of dieting and shedding the water weight to look good on the stage for 1 or 2 days is not the best thing to do for my body that needs to be ready to go at my job with a only a quick few seconds notice. I also have competed in the Firefighter Combat Challenge which is a rigorous course set up to simulate firefighting. It's very easy for me to get out of shape for this. It is a very intense course. My goal is to compete and do a personal best in the local race of May '09. My best so far is 3min 17sec and a time of 2:25 or better will get me the female state tile. Woo hoo just thinking about it gives me a rush. I love the outdoors. I have competed in a few adventure races, two were 30 hour long races. I was part of a co-ed team of four with co-workers from the fire service. It was great training with them and we always kept each other motivated. My short term goals are to shed the 12 lbs I put on this past 2008 year from eating wrong and too much and get my drive back to workout that I haven't felt since I stopped in July to study for a promotional exam at work. I love extreme and I'm looking for that drive again. Thanks to Team Beachbody I feel I am on my way. I love the P90X program I started Nov 2008. | ||||||||
