I was that kid that could eat anything he wanted. People used to tell me how lucky I was because I would never gain any weight. At that time I probably was lucky, but today is a very different story. When I was younger I played sports, a lot of sports. It didn’t matter what it was, I played it. This is the sole reason that I was able to eat whatever I wanted. As I got older my lifestyle started to become more sedentary. After college, I joined the 8 to 5 working world and a lot of the sports I played fell by the waist side. A pickup basketball game from time to time and the obligatory flag football game in the fall is what my active lifestyle had become. Throughout this entire time, I never made an attempt at learning to eat right or following a true exercise regime. I kept coming home in the evenings and having my burger and fries and watching television all night. By the time I hit my thirties, I had a nice round belly and so little energy that I couldn’t keep up with my 2 year old son. January 1, 2007 has come and another New Year’s Resolution to get fit has been made. This time I almost made it through the whole month without quitting! So here I am back to doing nothing and eating fast food for almost every meal. One day my wife called me at work and told me one of my best friends growing up was on an infomercial for some workout program called P90X. I asked her to record it so I could watch it when I got home. Sure enough, it was one of my oldest friends Robert Hudgens. For those WOWY members, you should know him as HarleyGuy1. He wasn’t some bodybuilder that added 15 or 20 pounds just to drop it and peddle the latest fat burner. He was a REAL person with REAL results. I wasn’t quite ready for P90X, so my wife and I ordered Power 90. It came on a Friday and we started the program that Monday. I made it through Sculpt 1-2 and thought this is going to be easy. I was so very wrong! The next day I was extremely sore and remembered that I had to do Sweat 1-2 that night. After about the first 5 days or so, the soreness went away. I promise it will go away! During my 90 day journey with Power 90 my results came with hard work. I focused on eating the right foods in the right portions and pushing play everyday. I’m not going to lie I was not 100% day in and day out. The most important thing I have learned through this journey is if you make a mistake, or you decide to have a cheat meal, don’t beat yourself up over it. Enjoy it and work that much harder in your next workout. Ironically enough, my occasional cheat meals became great motivators for me. I usually had around 1 to 2 cheat meals a week and then would push myself as hard as I could my next workout. Here I am at day 90. I’ve lost a total of 27 pounds in just 90 days! That is just unreal to me. The best part is now I have the energy to play with my son and then some! My physical fitness will no longer hinder what activities I do with my son. Something else that has happened is that all of my friends are asking me how I lost my weight. In fact, just 30 days into Power 90 one friend was so surprised at the results I was getting, he ordered it and started as well. For the first time in my life it wasn’t me looking for motivation, it was me being motivation! There is no burger in the world that tastes as good as that felt! So from here on out, it’s all about pushing play and pushing myself. P90X is next and I can’t wait to BRING IT! Updated 11/21/07 I tore my right calf (2nd degree tear) in the summer and had to take some time off. I still did my best to focus on my eating. Even though most cardio was out of the question, I still did what I could to stay active. I finally took the plunge and learned to swim! Well, to swim and breath the proper way. It's a great workout and it didn't hurt my calf. It has healed enough to begin P90X and I am currently in Phase 2 of P90X. I absolutely love it! Everytime I push play, I'm pushing myself as hard as I can. Updated 1/21/09 Last year I had surgery to repair some hernias so I was down for a little bit. However, after the surgeries not only did I get back to my fitness goals, I completed my first sprint triathlon! It was something I never thought I would be able to do. It was a great accomplishment for me. My goal for this year is to complete 6 sprint triathlons. | ||||||||
