The hours were long and for the most part, weekends and vacations just didn’t exist. I didn't exercise or work out because I lacked both the time and energy. In fact, I barely had enough energy at the end of the day to get through dinner and get my son to bed. Now, at age 46, I’ve put that behind me. Although I no longer had the excuse that I didn’t have the time, I still wasn’t taking the initiative to commit to a serious exercise regimen. Sure, I’d walk a few times a week, but when school started this past fall, I got out of the routine that I had established over the summer. Worse yet, I’d find myself wandering into the kitchen and snacking several times during the day. I found the scale starting to slowly creep upward and my pants getting uncomfortably tight. I’ve always been able to keep my weight in check…until now. I began to get angry with myself, and when that scale hit 135, I said “that’s it!!” I knew I needed to start exercising again, not only to shed those extra 12 pounds, but also to reshape my body. Although plenty of folks would say I didn’t need to lose a pound (I weighed 133 when I started SI6 on January 8th), it was the distribution of the weight that worried me most - that and just feeling so out of shape. That is just not me – until my son was born and work became so demanding - I was always active. I was anxious to embark on something more drastic than the typical diet – something that could help me reshape this “out-of-shape” body, as well as support my weight and exercise goals. When I started SI6, I weighed 133 pounds. Although I was looking for only an 8-10 lb weight loss goal when I started, I needed some major reshaping work. I was at the point where my "fat" clothes had become my normal clothes and I just flat out refused to start buying bigger sized clothes. I started with SI6 and was so motivated by it, that I missed only one day in the entire 6 weeks. It wasn't easy -it required commitment and it was work, but it was worth it. Granted, the lunges and squats were a bit hard on my knees, so I modified that part a bit and consoled myself with the fact that I was exercising in the spirit intended, and according to my heart rate monitor, I was still getting one heck of a work out. Even now, I still dread that Burn-it-up routine, because, wow is it work. But when I'm done, I feel so proud of myself. After 8 weeks, I've only lost 3 pounds. Although I am personally a bit disappointed by that, I know I shouldn't be because it is obvious that I've replaced fat with muscle. I feel in shape for the first time in over 10 years, and I've lost a few inches. I'm back to my skinny jeans and am feeling great. I think that doing my WO at the same time every day and making it an integral part of my daily routine has helped me stay on track - I just go do it (like brushing my teeth). What else helped motivate me? Believe it or not, I went out and bought some new “work out attire.” I actually looked forward to changing into my new duds, and going downstairs to work out. Sure beat my old sweat pants and tee-shirts. I also got a mirror that I placed next to the TV, so I can check my form as I exercise. Lastly, participating in WOWY has been great. It's fun to meet your buddies there. It's amazing how a virtual WO with "friends" can help you keep your commitment to work out. To keep my transformation going (and eventually lose a few more pounds), I've started the Turbo Jam series. I love to dance, so this is turning into a great way to get a WO without quite the "pain" of Burn it up. I don't intend to desert my SI6 series, though, it's just great to have different options to keep it mixed it up. Stay tuned for the next update in my transformation! | ||||||||
