I will share twenty-five years of my experience in strength and fitness with you and help you understand and optimize your Beachbody programs and supplements. WHY ME? Read on. Who I am: I am a 40 year old, happily married man of 18 years who enjoys the great outdoors and being active. I am an independent Beachbody Coach who has helped many good, dedicated people become healthy and fit. My story: I was a skinny kid growing up. I remember being about 8 years old and discovering the likes of Eugen Sandow and Charles Atlas. I was captivated by their level of strength and fitness. Soon after I discovered bodybuilders like Larry Scott, Lou Ferrigno and Arnold Schwarzenegger. After pouring over fitness magazines from the 70s and 80s, while in Jr. High and High School, learning everything there was to learn about strength and nutrition, I began to work out. I enjoyed lifting at my high school stadium. Our high schools came equipped with college sized stadiums and this is where I spent my summers, running up and down it and weightlifting inside. Fast forward a few years. I was involved in a head on collision that could have taken my life, but left me with a completely torn left knee instead. My insurance had run out from paying hospital bills and I was unable to afford physical therapy for more than a couple days, so I decided to rehabilitate my knee by myself. My knee wouldn’t bend more than about five degrees without excruciating pain. Over the next five or six months, I gritted through a lot of pain to gradually increase the flexibility in my reconstructed ACL and MCL ligaments. About two years after, I was able to walk somewhat normally. My leg, however, was a toothpick. After this, I knew it was time to get back into shape. With a lack of such large Texas style high school stadiums where I now live, I settled on a gym membership instead. This accident had set me back a few years and rather than pursue my dream of competing and opening up my own gym, I pursued another business endeavor instead as a general contractor. I have a passion for building and this became my new hobby, per se. I tried to stay in shape with a demanding schedule, but time had a way of creeping up on me and adding layers of fat. I had very little time to exercise, much less eat properly. One night I saw the P90X infomercial on TV, and at least four times thereafter when I decided to give it a try. The rest, as they say, is history. What I do: I am now a full time coach, personal trainer and fitness enthusiast and am happy to have revitalized my passion for mentoring and helping others achieve their fitness goals. I have helped friends, family members and clients achieve a level of fitness and self esteem that they never before thought would be possible. Those who have had wonderful results have shared their enthusiasm as coaches by helping others with their fitness goals. It is gratifying to be able to give back what has been given to me. One night I was watching TV before bed and I saw an infomercial advertising P90X. Although I was not a stranger to well periodized fitness programs and being familiar with the training principle known as muscle confusion, I was still skeptical. The workouts, coupled with the transformation pictures of those who succeeded with the program compelled me to watch further. It wasn’t until about a week later when I had seen this commercial air several times and being convinced that it could work, I decided to order it and give it a try.
Despite a rigorous schedule in the construction field I was able to lose 10 lbs of fat and gain some lean muscle mass. My body fat percentage had dropped from 12.7% to about 8.1%. By having participating in the Beachbody community forums, meeting like-minded people and receiving support and using Beachbody’s features such as WOWY, I was able to stay accountable to myself and my peers on the message boards.
Since then I have started many rounds, though I have fallen off the wagon a few times, due to personal demands and circumstances as an adoptive father coupled with my hectic schedule as a contractor. I was always able to renew my efforts of being in the best shape of my life when I turn forty this coming September. I have completed one full round of Doubles since January 2009, and have just started another round of the Classic program. I am ahead of schedule and look forward to turning forty and being in excellent condition this Fall. I use many awesome Beachbody tools such as WOWY, where I work out with many good folks from around the U.S. and I have also created a WOWY group where others work out with me and help me stay accountable to them. I enjoy the meal planner and being able to customize my meals and know exactly the amount of calories in every tasty meal.
Today I am in the best shape of my life. I am in much better shape than my days in high school and as a contractor at age thirty-nine I am able to run circles around guys half my age at the job site. I have no problem lifting and hauling beams around thanks to P90X Core Synergistics and with my conditioning thanks to workouts like P90X Plyometrics and Cardio, I have the stamina to climb ladders and move up and down a roof all day with ninety pound bundles of shingles with ease. All of the P90X workouts combined have given me the strength, flexibility and conditioning to function at peak levels. I am getting stronger every day and there’s no slowing down!
