I led a mostly sedentary lifestyle and reached 165 pounds by the time I was in 8th grade. I then began a vicious cycle of starvation diets, followed by bingeing and punishing exercise. I starved myself down to 113 pounds, but then gained it all back within two years, eventually ballooning up to 185 pounds in 1999. This was an enormous amount of weight for my petite 5'3 inch frame. My lowest weight of 113 was achieved on a steady diet of legal amphetamines, but a few years of heavy drinking and almost daily consumption of fast food sent me off the charts to 185 until 2000. I was then able to drop about 20 pounds, but still had not found the secret to LIFELONG weight loss, fitness and success. In 2003, I stopped drinking alcohol, found running and took control of my life and my health. For over five years now, I have been working out six days per week, running, (a 6:52 mile these days, I never thought I would be fast at anything!) competing in marathons and various other races, lifting weights and working to improve myself every day. I've also strived to achieve TOTAL wellness, not only physical health, but spiritual enrichment too, as well as balance in all areas of my life. I have become serious about nutrition and have done extensive research on the best and most nutrient-dense foods to put into my body to achieve the most powerful, cleanest-burning fuel for optimal success. One of the best books I've read is "Total Metabolism" by Dr. Mark Hyman. My new favorite is "SPARK" by Dr. John Ratey, which talks about the importance of movement, the mind of body connection and how exercise actually grows brain cells! I am constantly reading, researching, learning and pushing myself to improve. In my professional world, I work as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor. It is my passion to help people live better lives, to bridge the gap between where they are and where they want to be, to draw out their own internal motivation to get healthy and to set goals and reach them. I live in Duluth, Minnesota with my husband Mike and daughters Hailey and Macy. Lake Superior is right in my backyard, and although the weather can get dicey around these parts and we generally have at least 5 months of winter, I have a gorgeous playground of trails, water, woods right in my backyard. A national magazine recently referred to Duluth as "Nordic chic" which I thought was pretty cool. My Progress My Fitness Goal: Transformation Story

I have maintained my weight of 127-130 for the past four years. Plus, I dropped four pounds of fat during my first 90 days of P90X. In the past, I would lose weight and always gain it back. I was pregnant from August of 2007 to April of 2008. My starting weight was 130 - and the day I gave birth I was 163. I ran and exercised up until the day before I gave birth. I remember having contractions the day before my daughter was born and thinking, "should I go to the gym?" I lost half of my pregnancy weight during childbirth and the first week after my daughter was born - bringing me to around 146 one week post-pardum. I could not wait to get back to working out and was running again and working out SEVEN DAYS after my daughter was born! This helped me so much...I was not as controlled by the exhaustion and pregnancy hormones. It is a MYTH and an excuse that you have to get fat because you've had kids. Sure, you will gain weight, but you can gain it the healthy way - and you can lose it! I lost all my pregnancy weight by the time my daughter was 3 months old. Also, I did not get any stretch marks, was not as tired and had more energy. Although I had lost all the baby weight after a few months, I still wanted to tone up and build muscle strength. My husband and I were getting ready to start our spring marathon training when we saw the P90X infomercial. I knew it was the program I was looking for. I ordered it around the middle of January and we started the workouts on 1/24/09. We saw wonderful progress in the initial three month period, but the first 90 days is just the beginning! I am in the best shape of my life, not only physically, but mentally, too. I've finally shattered the old belief I held about what my body was capable of. I used to think of myself as "not athletic." Now I know I can do anything I set my mind to. About 5 years ago, I could not do even ONE push-up ON MY KNEES! I was at the Y and cried in the personal trainer's office because I was so out of shape. Now, I can do 30 "man" style pushups, as well as 8 pull ups! Not to mention my running endurance has improved dramatically. We are already running 18 mile long runs! Thanks to P90X we're going to run our best marathon ever! It has been an incredible ride, but it is just the beginning. P90X has pushed me to better myself in so many ways. I remember when I started the program, wondering how would I ever find the time to train for a marathon AND do P90X??? Well, I am convinced you can have anything if you want it bad enough! I lost 4 pounds during the three months, a startling 7% bodyfat and an inch off my chest, waist and hips. More importantly, I realized I should not ever limit myself by someone else's standards. As Will Smith says, "I'm as good as I say I am." It is my mission and passion in life to help others find a fitness lifestyle they can stick to and live with. I know how it feels to be stuck in a rut, fat, depressed, with no motivation and not even knowing where to begin. That's how I felt six years ago. Today, I am completely different and cannot imagine going back to the old way of life. I know I never will. As a Team Beachbody coach I will help you by: 1.
