I am a 31-year-old lady living in beautiful Los Gatos, California. I have been active for as long as I can remember... I started playing soccer "officially" when I was five and was active in sports all through high school. I was always "muscular" with some "squishiness" on top. Never have I been quite satisfied with my physique.
College life began the cycle of drinking and poor nutrition, followed by whatever fad diet seemed cool at the time. My body was not a fan of this change and I continued to cycle this way until I graduated. Once I was in the work force, I began to go to the gym more but again, never really achieved the "look" I was going for. I then began to train for a marathon and a physique competition simultaneously (NOT a good idea) and ruptured my L5/S1 disc in my lower back. I ran the marathon anyway!!! (I had severe back pain while in my "stall" the morning of the marathon, but did it anyway because I'd invested so much time in my training.)
This began the real pain and weight gain. I was out of commission completely after that marathon, and put on about 20 lbs. A series of abusive relationships and addictive behavior with food and alcohol put me at my top weight of 201 lbs. I got my wake up call when I ruptured the disc again and had to go into rehabilitative therapy. I had a choice: to drop some weight and get active or live a life in miserable pain.
I began to train but I could not get my diet under control. I'd been on so many diets that my body was very "resistant" to anything I did and I never had the patience to stick with anything. I would drop weight and then "reward" myself by eating. I managed to lose about 20 lbs but could never get lower than that. I had extensive experience and training in nutrition and physical fitness, but I could not for the life of me actually apply it properly.
About 6 months ago I learned that I had an allergy to white flour and sugar, and cut those from my diet completely. I also watch my portions like a hawk. After making this change I feel a million times better. I am now at 158 lbs., but my current "mellow cardio" routine isn't quite cutting it. I purchased all of the Turbo Jam DVD's, P90X & ChaLEAN extreme to put me up and over the edge of any training I have done before. I am so excited with my new training that I keep pressing play every day! I know now with certainty that I will reach my ultimate goal!
