I work in the arts and entertainment business as a film festival programmer and concert presenter. I've lived in NC since 1995, but have also lived in TX, NE, NY, CA, and WV. Because I work with a lot of artists and filmmakers, I'm always self-conscious to look my best. As you can imagine---if you're working around artists, musicians, models, and actors---they are, for the most part, VERY fit

Am I a Beachbody success story? I dunno, many others sure seem to think so. I suspect it's rare that anyone is ever truly satisfied with their body image. I suppose if Tony Horton himself were to tell me that I'm a success story, I might believe it. For now, I consider myself a success-story-in-progress.

I look at the progress I've made since July 10, 2009 and think, "You've done a decent job." There's much more, however, I want to accomplish, especially when it comes to those ever-elusive abs. For some reason, I equate success with my abdominals. Never having had a six-pack, I now focus my energy toward my midsection and the desire to see those ripped muscles, although they're still some time in coming.

Like so many others on this site, I once weighed a lot more. In March of 2009, I tipped the scales at 250 pounds and a 45' waist. Between work, friends, and eating out, my weight had risen to the highest it had ever been, and nothing I seemed to do worked in the slightest. The diets of yesterday---as I approached 40---didn't work. I tried low carb, I tried tennis, and I tried starving myself. Yes, the crash diets brought my weight down, but the area around my waist refused to shrink. Instead, I lost inches around my upper arms and butt. I knew that committment to an exercise program would be the only true method to see the results I wanted. Many years ago, I'd purchased Tony Horton's P90 Program, but never really used the DVDs. On 7/10/09, I figured it was time to see what Beachbody was all about.

It's now been four months since I started the program. With the tremendous support of my Beachbody Coach (Thank You, Don Denton!), my current weight is 173 pounds and my waist is 31.5'. I seem to receive compliments about my transformation on an almost-daily basis. Again, I ask, "Am I a success story?" Who knows? Rather than be content in having met 100% of the PROGRESS AND GOALS I'd originally set for myself on July 10, I have now created an all-new set of goals to achieve. Some are fairly aggressive. Others are probably insane. One might be impossible. My will is set, even if the body is sometimes slower to follow.

Listed below is my journey as it's happened:

Update: 7/30/09
I've been hiking on a nature trail each day. 4 miles in the morning and 6 in the evening. The first time I clocked myself with a stopwatch, I completed the 6-mile hike in a little under 2 hours. Last night, I completed it in 89.32. And today...in 86.56! And finally...I am able to do 20 reps of each routine in the Ab200 as of tonight! Tomorrow night, I will advance to Sculpt III-IV and see how it goes. I've already been doing Sweat III-IV for about a week. Plus, my P90X boxed set arrived in the mail yesterday morning. I can't wait to start it in mid-October after finishing my first 90 days of P90!!!

Update: 8/25/09
I have gotten stronger and thinner. My waist measured tonight at 38', having started at 45' on July 10, 2009. And my powerwalk through the nature trails of NC? Tonight was my best time yet! 75.03! I remember being so proud when I made that walk at 86.56 just less than a month ago. Now that seems like light stroll. I've lost almost 20 pounds. Current weight is 196.6, down from 216!

9/4/09: I turned 41 two days ago. My current weight is 191.4 and my waist is 36'. That's almost 25 pounds and 9 inches lost since I started this program!

9/25/09: Current weight is 184.8. Waist is 34'. BF% is 16%, down from 35% on 7/10/09! This is Day 78 of P90!

10/6/09: I am a P90 graduate! Final weight is 180. Waist is 32.75'. BF is 15%! I have lost 36 pounds, 20% body fat, and 12.25 inches off my waist in 90 days!

10/11/09: I have officially begun my first round on P90X!

10/22/09: I have reached my goal weight which I set on 7/10/09 of 176. Official weight for the past 2 days has been 175.8! Waist is 32.5'.

10/25/09: I've been doing 1200 abcrunches per night for the past week. Yes, it's brutal, but oh so rewarding. Is it even possible that I've lost a whole inch off my waist in 3 days? According to the tape measure, the answer is yes. Official weight this morning is 173.2 and waist is 31.5'.
