My name is David Hawkins, I am married to a beautiful woman named Tirza for 12 wonderful years. We have 4 great kids ranging in age from 6 years old to 17 months. Needless to say our lives are pretty busy, filled with lots of love and lots of fun. We wouldn’t want it any other way. I am a physical therapist, a certified strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS), and I co-own and operate 2 outpatient physical therapy clinics. Everyday I give people advice on their health and partner with them in overcoming various injuries, helping them reach their goals and return to the things they love to do. Over the years of treating others, I have witnessed the role that exercise, proper nutrition, and proper instruction play in helping people recover from injuries, prevent future injuries, and live happier, healthier lives. I came across a quote, “The First Health is Wealth” by Ralph Waldo Emerson and I truly believe in this statement. Ask yourself, if I don’t have my health, what do I truly have left? I have witnessed what happens when the ability to walk is taken away from someone because of injury or declining health, they would give anything to walk or run again. Which leads me to the question: What am I or what are we all doing today to improve our health? If the answer is nothing or not much, then it is time to make a change. If we all know the importance of proper nutrition and exercise, what keeps us from being consistent in our exercises and making good food choices? Well, I surveyed several of my patients and they came up with various answers: no time, being unsure of what to do, no accountability, the dreaded no results, and no motivation. Does this sound like any of you, it certainly sounded like some of my excuses. Which leads me to the question: why Beachbody? Why Beachbody? I have personally previewed several programs over the last 10 years, always looking for new exercises to give to patients, and looking for a program that would produce results for me personally. From my experience, I can honestly say that my current program P90X is the most comprehensive program I have ever come across. The program combines cardiovascular exercise, strength training, plyometrics, and the oft forgotten and highly undervalued stretching exercises through Yoga, to give you a complete program that produces results. Not only that but the exercises change and advance over the course of the program creating muscle confusion and providing a solution to what I call “Adult Exercise Attention Span”. Many of us know what I’m talking about, we get all excited about getting into shape and then get a few weeks to few months into it and get bored or don’t get results and then stop. Well Beachbody is your solution. They have an entire lineup of home exercise programs from beginner, to diabetic, to extreme. Regardless of where you are currently at in your fitness, whether you are young or old, male or female, fit or flabby, there is something for you. Beachbody also has a wonderful community support group of coaches and people like you and I, willing to help each other along the way. Finally, I have learned that exercising and being healthy is as much a mental game as it is a physical one, so jump on board, enjoy the ride, and achieve the mental and physical health that you deserve and need for years to come. I have been active in sports all my life, from the time I was young until now. I love football, basketball, baseball, golf, tennis, snow-skiing, water-skiing/wakeboarding, etc. I had always been in good shape and then over time I put on a little bit of weight, but nothing substantial. Little by little the weight gain continued until I looked in the mirror one day and said “that isn’t me”. I knew what kind of shape I had been in before and so the image in the mirror didn’t jive with the one I had in my head. I tried lots of different things, I even trained and competed in a few sprint triathlons and felt pretty good but still didn’t achieve the “visual results” I was looking for and just chalked it up to getting older. Then one day I was watching TV and saw Tony Horton doing an infomercial for P90X and I had to know for myself can I get “RIPPED” or not. If Tony, who is older than I am, and many others in the program can get ripped, than why not me? I was up for the challenge. When I received the program, I was unimpressed with my fitness level after taking the pre-test, and pleasantly surprised at how challenging the different P90X workouts are – this program is the real deal! I haven’t completed the program yet, but I am sure excited about my results so far. So what do you want to Achieve today? What are you waiting for? You know none of us are getting any younger or maybe, just maybe we are…..through a little magic pill called exercise!
