Most of my life I have been a person of average build, height and weight. In 1996 I graduated from Police Academy and began a career in Law Enforcement. Being a father of 5 children, my wife and I quickly discovered that working the schedule and the pay did not provide the lifestyle we would have liked. I loved the work, but could not do it fulltime. I went to work with my Father, as the Operations Officer for his water treatment company. I still had a love for Police work and became a Reserve Police Officer. Working with my family in the "water" business had its own challenges, one of which is my Fathers un-healthy eating habits. I had no idea how it affected me when we all went out for lunch every other day or more often. I became what I said I would never become, someone who was "obese" by standards and looked the part. Over the last 4 years I have led an unhealthy life in different aspect of my life. 2 years ago I decided, no more, and got the help I needed to live a healthy happy life and it had nothing to do with Beachbody or working out when I started. A good friend of mine told me a year ago that if I was going to operate in my most efficient manner, I would have to start eating right and work out. I agreed. In June of 2008, while working as a Reserve Officer, several officers and I responded to a "boy" in the Creek, next to our Police Department. The boy was about 50 yards away from our PD and we were there within seconds. The "Creek" was a river moving at over 700 cubic feet per second and was ice cold from the spring runoff. The boy became stuck along with an adult who tried to save him after I threw a rescue rope to them. Without thought I was in the "Creek" and pulled the boy out. It all took about 1 minute, but I found myself out of breath, and it really set in that night, one miss step and me and that boy would have been down the river and a very different outcome could have occurred. Within weeks I was at the "Rec" center working out. I have never known how to "work out" so I was really moving round wasting time and money. I was still eating what I have always eaten. Chips, salsa, Mountain Dew and Dr.Pepper. That was the basic food group for me, and it showed! Drum roll!!! One night I was flipping channels and saw this guy "Tony Horton" doing pushups and flying off the ground. I hit record on the DVR. I watched that infomercial 20 times. All these people calling it like it was and all I had to do was do what they were doing. I have not been that excited with anything on TV since I ordered my "Slap Chop!" I love my Slap Chop and was excited to order P90X. I was broke at the time since it was Christmas and all, but picked it up in January. It set on the counter for a week while I looked over the food plan and got online at Beachbody and joined for the web site. I then decided to do the classic version and went at it! I found myself on the floor, crying for my mom after the 5 minute warm ups! I could NOT do it every day, so I started doing what I could, which was not much for a few months. Finally April 5th I started it daily and I started with doubles. I am now 60 days into my program. I have lost 3.5 inches off my “gut” and have lost fat all over my body. My wedding ring that I had sized to fit my fat finger last Christmas is back in a box needing to get resized smaller. 4 suites I bought in January, I had 3 jackets re-cut and 1 had 4 “taken in on the jacket and pants. All of my shorts don’t fit, pants don’t fit, my shirts hang straight and I can touch my toes for the first time in my life. I can run up my stairs and not lose my breath. I took off running after one of my kids this week, I moved really fast, kind of surprised myself. I have had Planter Facilities in my feet; it’s gone, no more pain. I do have some tender spots in my shoulders but the recovery drink helps with that. I have a hard time with Kenpo X because of it but I modify my work out and I can cruz through it in Cardio X. The food! I follow the book and online menus. I picked up Shakeology this week as well as the bars. It makes the day much easier when things get busy, wish I had done it from the start. I have days when I was some cookies Brooke makes; I miss out on some of the “yummy” things that made me fat. I do NOT miss my chips and salsa and all the pop. I have eaten out several times and follow the guides. I have had a Dr.Pepper a few times and I feel like crap when I drink it and I am sure I will have another sometime when I go out and will feel like crap gain. Am I perfect with food, no, but I “Bring it” 90 % of the time. My wife loves the new healthy food and our children are being switched and don’t even know it for the most part. What will the next few weeks bring? Me wrapping up the beginning of my first P90X workout. It won’t be my last, it’s a process. I will do P90X+, I will do Insanity when it is released and I will do Hip Hop Abs, just because. Chalean scares me so that will be next year. As I write this I remember that I am not in this alone, I had a great Beachbody coach and have had great results. I have met wonderful people through Beachbody. A big part of my why is showing those around me the happiness someone can have by living a healthy happy life. More updates to follow! Thanks for reading!
