I was very athletic in high school and the first half of college. I was on both the track and cross country teams. After meeting my husband my fitness began to slack. In 2000 my son was born and at that time my weight was up to 200lbs. I lost most of that weight but it has been up and down and I have never been happy with my weight or fitness level.

My husband (Pat) and I started Power 90 in August of 2007. We just completed Power 90 at the end of October of 2007 and then did a round of Power 90 Master. In February of 2008 we started a round of P90X.

We were feeling great then on one morning in March Pat woke up with chest pains and after a visit to the emergency room he was diagnosed with pericardia, an inflammation of lining around the heart. With that news Pat was told not to exercise until the inflammation was gone. With most people it can be a quick process but with Pat it took a lot longer than we expected. I continued with P90X and training for my half marathon on my own. It was hard to continue on my journey without him. He is such a strong partner in so many ways it was hard to continue without my workout partner.

I completed my first half marathon in May of 2008 in 1 hr and 52 minutes. I was so excited about my time and it motivated me to continue with the goal of running a full marathon in November of 2008. Then a couple weeks after my half marathon my mother went to the dentist for a cleaning and got an infection that attacked the metal in her hip replacement. She was out of 8 weeks after that and I had to take over her tasks at work (I help run the family construction business). Due to the economy we had already made cutback in the office and in May I took on the tasks of the estimator in the office. After my mother was out I was trying to do the work of three people. Needless to say my workouts is what I gave up to make time for everything else.

I made the biggest mistake in fitness. I stopped putting myself first. In January of 2009 Pat and I recommitted to ourselves and our fitness for us and our family. We started with Chalean Extreme then moved onto P90X. We are currently on our second round of P90X this year. I feel wonderful. I’m stronger than I was this time last year. I’m finally able to do unassisted pull ups and I plan to get back on plan to complete a full marathon if not in the fall of 2009 by spring of 2010.
