My overall goal is listed as "Lose Weight" when really it needs to be "All of the Above". I'm 50 going on 51 and in the worst possible condition in my life.
I'm not overweight, I'm morbidly obese and I know it. I hate having my picture taken even when it's by close friends and family because I hate what I see. It took 4 pictures to scare me. More horrify me because I wanted to remain blind to what had happened to me. My daughter said "no pics, no proof" and so I dug out a swim suit I bought 10 years ago and squeezed into it. The results are the Before pictures. I sat and cried as it finally sunk in.
Everyone has their story and it's all a very personal journey. So here is mine and it all begins with a single step.
I have Hachimoto's Syndrome which effects my thyroid. I can't lose weight easily and at best I could keep things steady. While we were still attached to the military, I could go swimming everyday and I did 3 and a half miles religiously. I was beginning to see my blood pressure go down, the cholesterol go down, and my weight was beginning to drop. I was pretty jazzed about that.
Then we had to move.
We retired and ended up in a place that depressed me from the beginning, 7 years ago. My weight ballooned. I went from 270 and dropping to 325 pounds and gaining.
I was blind to it all the whole time.
In January, I was sitting up at night, flipping channels and I come across this infomercial. There's this guy bouncing about like a rabbit on amphetamenes and he's having the time of his life. I watched that infomercial then went surfing to locate it again on another late night channel. I did that 4 times that night and repeated it the next several nights.
That was my introduction to Tony Horton and P90X. Wow. That left an impression.
I ordered P90X in January and it came at the end of that month. I stood in freezing cold temperatures with a stiff wind blowing to get my delivery from the UPS guy.
Yeah, I was excited.
I opened the boxes, got that first DVD in and watched it from start to finish and I did that for every DVD in that set. I was more than excited. I told my doc about what I wanted to do. Being a doc, they prescribed I ease into it. Take it easy. P90X is a bit too extreme. Try something easier.
Okay. Disappointing, but I can understand where they are coming from. So I ordered P90 and that's where I am today. My goal is to lose 150 pounds, build up muscle, lower my cholesterol and be rid of my hypertension, increase my energy, and finally, get ripped.
It's a tall order, but not impossible. This is where my journey of transformation begins.
