Full time home business owner and fitness enthusiast currently working the Insanity program and loving it! I reside is sunny San Diego, California with my wonderful wife, Tamara.
In the late summer of 2008 I was told by doctors that I was in desperate need of a heart valve replacement if I wanted to live passed the spring of 2009.
The failing heart made physical exertion, of any sort, incredibly difficult. When combined with an addiction to food, over the years, my weight had gotten out of control. On the day of surgery I was tipping the scales at 337 pounds.
From the day of surgery through January of 2009, my weight fluctuated some but there was a major need for a life change. My early walks as a recovering heart surgery patient turned into longer walks, a little strength training and, eventually, a gym membership.
I was motivated to succeed. Now that I had a heart that could handle exercise it was time to start shedding the pounds. On July 16th of 2009 I joined 24 Hour Fitness and that's when I started seeing real results.
The day I joined the gym I weighed in at 321 pounds. After a few months in the gym I saw a commercial for Shaun T's Insanity on TV and didn't believe I could do it yet but ordered anyway. That was a little over five weeks ago...
Yesterday I wrapped up month number one of Insanity and am getting ready to go into my recovery week. At present I weight 269.5 pounds and am more fit than I've ever been in my life (including my early adult years in the service.)
What my body is able to do, after only 30 days of Insanity, is nothing short of amazing. The improvement in my conditioning and endurance has been remarkable. I'm able to do intervals on the treadmill and elliptical machines with an intensity that generally draws stares from other members.
I was shocked to see that even a recovering, formerly fat, heart patient was able to run on the treadmill at an incline of 2.5 for more than 2 minutes at seven miles an hour. I'm still a pretty big buy at 269.5. To be able to run at a full out sprint is nothing short of amazing in my eyes and I know that the conditioning through Shaun T's Insanity has made this possible.
My entire journey is being documented through my blog at www.yesterdaysfatguy.com. There are updated before and after pictures, video, nutrition updates and just about anything else I can find to post that will help to encourage and motivate others to take action, exercise their mind and body and get back in the game of life and live to their fullest potential!
